We may only be one month into 2020 but BAPE has kicked off the New Year in style. The Japanese streetwear label has already collaborated with The Weeknd and Pusha T, with its diffusion line BAPE BLACK reworking two Reebok sneakers. Adding to the list of collabs, BAPE has unveiled a collection with Colombian musician J Balvin.
J Balvin is no stranger to the world of fashion. The 34-year-old singer can often be spotted at the fashion shows of Dior and Off-White™; with a close alliance to the world of streetwear too. This is the first time that BAPE and J Balvin will work together. However, the debut collection is certainly one of the strongest from BAPE in a while.
It is clear to see both influences in this drop; with heavy graphic and branding being placed across hoodies and T-shirts. J Balvin has been reimagined as a BABY MILO character across multiple items; with the familiar miniature monkey print being sat by his side. The detail in this collab is also pretty crazy to see. Some pieces even include Balvin’s signature tattoos being spotted in the cartoon imagery.
A number of classic BAPE pieces have also been reimagined on this collection. The brand’s familiar APE HEAD T-shirts use J Balvin branding in multiple colours; a knowing nod to the musicians constantly changing hair colour. J Balvin has also included his signature smiley face logo across a number of T-shirts which come in a variety of colours.
With the collection already being well received by BAPE fans, you can expect this to be one of the months most sought after drops.
