Hi Mike! Thank you for taking the time to chat with us.
Of course! Thanks for having me.
Please tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Mikee Polo, I’m 29 years old and I live in Holland. I am a huge Nike fan and my collection, therefore, consists mostly out of Air Max. In short, I can’t even begin to imagine my life without sneakers. I just love collecting them even though some might say this hobby has gotten a little out of control. What can I say? I just can’t help it!
When did you first get into sneaker collecting?
For me, it all started around 2005/2006. That is when I started collecting. The first Air Max 1 that caught my eye was the red Air Max 1 “History of Air”.
How long have you been collecting Air Max?
I’d say around 14 years.
What about the Air Max line is special to you?
I just look at the shoe, especially the ones until 2007, and everything just is right. The shape, the colorways, the materials, everything about the Air Max line is so unique. If I think sneaker, there is no other shoe to me that breathes more sneaker than Air Max. And in particular, the Air Max 1.
What is your favourite Air Max model?
I think this is stating the obvious, but Air Max 1, for sure!
What makes a pair of Air Max special to you?
To me, less is more. I like it when a shoe is clean and simple but still radiates power. That said, I also think you need to go for a bit more crazy colorways from time to time.
How many pairs of Air Max do you think you own?
I don’t know, I haven’t counted them in a while. I guess somewhere between 150-200 pairs.
What’s one Air Max model or colourway that you’d like to see a retro of?
Honestly, I am not a big fan of retroes. But if I had to choose, I would go for the Air Max 1 “Teal Co.Jp”.
This is going to be hard but if you had to pick a top three, what would they be?
Well, my all-time favorite is the Air Max 1 “Teal Co.Jp”, then the Air Max 1 “Untold Truth Sample” and finally, the Air Max 1 Powerwall “BRS”.
What have been some of the hardest pairs for you to track down?
The Air Max 1 “Albert Heijn” Hyperstrike, the signed Air Max 1 “Amsterdam” Hyperstrike and the Air Max 1 “Teal Co.Jp”. I never thought I would own the Albert Heijn and the signed Amsterdam’s, but yet here I am. They are still some of the most insane pairs of my collection.
What are some pairs that you are still on the hunt for?
There are some pairs that I would still really love to own. The Air Max 1 Pink Powerwall is definitely one of them and so are the WMNS Air Max 1 Grape’s ‘04, I really regret not buying them when I had the chance! Also on that list are the Air Max 90 “Homegrown State Magazine” Hyperstrike.
What is on your feet right now?
The Ben Drury x Air Max 1 “Hold Tight”.
What does Air Max mean to you?
I know it sounds corny, but to me, it’s a way of life.
Thanks, Mike!
Thanks, guys!
