It’s going to be a big year for Nike’s Air Max 90. The shoe, which was originally called the Air Max III, is turning 30 this year, with Nike pulling out all the stops to ensure that the sneaker has an appropriate celebration in the process. With such an iconic silhouette celebrating such a landmark anniversary, it is no surprise that the Swoosh is set to reissue some old favourites. One of those potentially returning is the “Bacon” colourway.
Dave’s Quality Meats is a New York sneaker boutique inspired by co-founder David Ortiz’s years of working in the meatpacking district of the city. The store boasts a butcher theme throughout, with hoodies being hung on meat hooks and T-shirts being shrinkwrapped and displayed in refrigerators.
Back in 2005, the independent sneaker store had the opportunity to work with Nike on an Air Max 90 which drew inspiration from pork belly slices. The colour scheme blended pink, red, cream and brown and used suede and leather to create one of the best Air Max 90s of all time. It was so popular that in 2009, Nike reissued the colourway on to its Air Max 90 Current Huarache model, giving fans a second chance to cop.
Now, rumours have begun to circulate that Nike intends to bring the sneaker back for the 30th anniversary of the beloved silhouette. Whilst information is currently slim, early reports suggest that the sneaker will be releasing around Air Max Day, which takes place on March 26th.
