It feels like there has been a big push for sustainability in sneakers this year. adidas recently announced that it would be partnering with Allbirds to produce the world’s most sustainable running shoe. Earlier this year, Nike announced that it had created an entire range made from recycled materials. Dubbed the “Space Hippie” collection, the four sneakers were an instant hit. Now, the aforementioned pack finally has a release date.
Nike’s exploratory footwear collection has been created entirely from post-consumer waste. The four sneakers seamlessly merge sustainable practices with a radical design. The result of which is a collection that is unlike any other. Not forgetting the core element of footwear, Nike has ensured that each sneaker has a unique aesthetic and fit. Traditional and laceless models have been included, creating a clever combination of familiar and futuristic designs.
Each of the four sneakers uses around 80-90% recycled polyester Space Waste Yarn; a material that is made from Nike ZoomX foam and Crater foam (a blend of standard Nike foams and Nike Grind Rubber). This means that each silhouette has a low carbon footprint as well as a never before seen look.
