Jerry Lorenzo is without a doubt one of the most influential people in high-end streetwear. Since launching Fear of God in 2013, the label has experienced phenomenal growth. Its popularity is down to its unique aesthetic, which Lorenzo defines as “chic grunge.” When leaked images surfaced of the popular Nike Air Fear of God 1 in a “String” colourway, sneakerheads were excited. Well, thanks to Lorenzo and Nike, we now have a full lookbook to take a look at ahead of the release.
The inspiration behind this campaign is one of Lorenzo’s all-time heroes: Allen Iverson. As one of the most pioneering basketball players of his time, AI is thought of as the “bad boy” of basketball. His outspoken attitude and desire to dress how he wanted, left him with multiple fines from the NBA. For Lorenzo, Iverson’s signature “the Question” Reebok sneaker was the inspiration behind this shoe.
It is easy to see the references to Iverson throughout this lookbook. Artistic Director Gary Land has created a story throughout the shots, each showing various points of Iverson’s career with Lorenzo as the model. Microphones and cameras depict the busy focus of NBA life; contrasted with shots of Lorenzo with his son on a sofa.
Of course, the main focus of this lookbook is the sneakers. The FOG1s feature a cream overlay and black mesh. The combination of colour blocking is also a direct connection to Iverson’s “The Question” sneakers. A small Swoosh can be spotted on the lateral side, with the cream midsole finishing the sneaker off.
Previous FOG1 collabs have gone for an eye-catching approach, however, this stripped back and easy to wear version is perfect for any rotation. Rumoured to drop at the end of the month, you can expect this to be a difficult cop.
