When Nike and Travis Scott began working together back in 2017, many were excited at the potential sneakers that future collaborations would hold. Starting off with an Air Force 1 to celebrate the shoes 35th anniversary, Cactus Jack put his signature touches on an iconic silhouette. Later that same year, fans were pleased to see a Travis Scott Air Jordan 4 remix, paying tribute to his beloved Houston Oilers. Travis Scott Nike collaborations have become a hyped event in recent months.
Fast forward two years and Travis Scott, Nike and Air Jordan have created some of the most hyped sneakers in memory. The Travis Scott Air Jordan 1 High and Low, as well as a Jordan 33 NRG. Now, we see the next instalment of the Travis Scott x Air Jordan lineage; the Air Jordan 6. Draped in an olive suede hue and utilising elements from the iconic ‘Infrared’ colourway, this is undoubtedly one of the drops of the year.
However, with hyped releases means an army of fakes being sold. With fakes getting harder and harder to tell apart these days, we thought we’d put together a comprehensive guide on how to spot a fake Travis Scott x Air Jordan 6.
The Fake Test
Which of the sneakers below do you think is an authentic Travis Scott Air Jordan 6 and which do you think is fake?
If you said the right shoe, then congratulations! You were wrong. The shoe on the right is, in fact, the fake Travis Scott Air Jordan 6.
When it comes to the upper of the latest Air Jordan 6 by Travis Scott, there are a few things that can really help in spotting a fake pair. Cactus Jack Jordan 6s have several manufacturing elements to look out for which we’ll point out below.
The Upper
Now, there are a lot of specific details that many replica manufacturers always seem to get wrong when making fake Jordans. The upper is one of the biggest signs that you should look for to know how to tell fake Travis Scott Air Jordans. The breakdown below will tell you what to look out for.
The Colour
This is one of the easiest things to tell when looking at an Air Jordan 6 Travis Scott. There has been a wide variety of fakes manufactured early, meaning that they are guessing what the exact colour truly is. Real Jordan 6 Travis Scott’s will have a rich colour throughout but will also be slightly lighter than fakes. Whilst the exact shading will vary slightly from pair to pair, you can expect all AJ6 Travis Scott’s to have a rich olive colour with a light tone.
The Suede
Probably the biggest giveaway on fake Travis Scott Jordan 6s is the overall appearance of the suede itself. Whilst the colour does vary ever so slightly from pair to pair, there should not be a dramatic difference in the way the suede looks or feels. This is due to the way that the suede has been brushed, giving the shoe its luxe look. If you want to know how to tell fake Travis Scott Jordans this is an easy giveaway.
The Stitching
The stitching is one of the biggest giveaways on fake pairs. The upper of the AJ6 Travis Scott’s should have perfect stitching between each of the panels. This stitching will have to have passed Nike’s quality control, meaning that the stitching will be perfect (most of the time).
Fake pairs of Cactus Jack Jordan 6s will tend to bunch the stitching too close together whereas authentic pairs tend to have more space between each stitch. If you have a pair of Air Jordan 6s, it would be a good idea to cross-reference the stitching on the pair you are looking to buy.
The Pocket
Travis Scott’s Air Jordan 6 model has a unique addition that no other previous AJ6 has; a stash pocket. It’s become one of Travis Scott’s signature pieces across his Nike collabs and one of the easiest ways to tell a real or fake. Jordan 1 Travis Scott’s also have this feature.
You should be able to see the Cactus Jack smiley face as soon as you open the pocket. The smiley face should also be the same infrared colour as the infrared found throughout the shoe’s accents.
The stitching that we discussed also applies to pocket. The pocket should have khaki stitching on the inside against white lining.
The Tongue
With the tongue on the latest Air Jordan x Travis Scott, there are several points to make note of. It could save you a lot of time, effort and embarrassment by checking just a few simple things.
The Look
This is one that should stand out quickly. Authentic Jordan 6 tongues have perfect spacing between the letters, specifically in the middle, where the ‘Jordan’ and ‘Air’ overlap. This particular tongue is slightly translucent too, meaning that the letters look slightly lighter than normal. Jordan 6 Travis Scott fakes either make the tongue too dark or too light, so it’s an easy giveaway on fake pairs.
There is also fraying on the top of the tongue as well as the holes in the middle on the back. This fraying is a signature part of the Travis Scott AJ6 and one that you should look out for. Whilst fakes do have a frayed tongue, the overall quality as well as the effort that has gone into it is pretty poor. A distressed look has been made and it’s definitely one that is noticeable.
The Holes
One of the biggest signs to look out for when carrying out a Travis Scott Air Jordan 6 legit check is the holes on the tongue. The breathable holes that are found throughout the tongue should be punctured with frayed edges. Most of the fakes tend to have holes with minimal fraying and the holes mismatched in size. It’s an easy one to spot so make sure to look out for it.
The Laces
Genuine Jordan Travis Scott laces are a perfect width. Fakes tend to make the laces either too thin or too thick and can’t get the balance right. Travis Scott Air Jordan 6s should also come with two spare sets of laces; a yellow pair and a black pair.
The Canvas
This is one of the most notable things to look for on the tongue of the Air Jordan 6 Travis Scott. A canvas material is used on both the pocket and the tongue. This material is very heavy duty and of good quality, meaning that it will be easy to tell a fake pair.
The Jumpman Logo
It’s arguably the most iconic logo in sport and one that replicators still can’t seem to get right. The Jumpman is one of the easiest ways to tell a fake pair of Jordans from a real pair. You should be able to see the individual fingers of the Jumpman ever so slightly, as well as the laces on the shoes. Fakes tend to make the Jumpman too fat or give him no shape, so beware when looking to cop.
The Cactus Jack Logos
Behind the tongue, there is an important detail that should be noted. A Cactus Jack logo is sewn into the canvas material directly behind the Jumpman logo. It should be stitched correctly and the same size as the Jumpman logo. You should also be able to see this stitched logo when you look at the shoe from the back.
The Lace Dubrae
One of the coolest details on the Travis Scott Air Jordan 6s is the Cactus Jack lace dubrae. Using the same lace dubrae as the Infrared, the Jumpman on one side has an opposing ‘Cactus Jack’ logo on the other. It’s a hidden detail that most fakes tend to miss out on and one that should be noted. The logo should be perfectly printed, even at such a small scale. If it looks blurry, or hard to read, then chances are the pair aren’t legit.
The Heel
Travis Scott Air Jordans have some unique features that no other Jordans have. The heel is one of the biggest giveaways when it comes to spotting fake Travis Scott Jordan 6s. We’ll explain what to look out for as well as the signs of real vs fake Jordans.
The Logos
The Jordan 4 Travis Scott uses the same ‘Cactus Jack’ logo on the heel. Putting his signature twist on the iconic Jordan 6 silhouette, Travis Scott features his ‘Cactus Jack’ branding on the right shoe and the classic ‘Nike Air’ branding on the left shoe. This stitching should be the same colour as the infrared accents found throughout the rest of the shoe.
Travis Scott’s emblem, the Cactus Jack logo, should also have a slight gap between the ‘C’ and ‘A’ on the branding. Most fakes tend to join these two letters together with stitching and it’s an easy sign to spot. The ‘A’ in ‘Jack’ should be joined with the ‘C’ leaving a small gap at the bottom.
The Heel Tab
One of the AJ6s key features is the pull tab on the heel. On the Jordan 6 Travis Scott, this heel is slightly translucent, just the same as the tongue is. Most fakes will make the heel tab black and it’s a big giveaway that the shoes are fake.
The Insole
If you do get a chance to look on the inside of the shoe, there are a couple of things that you should be looking for.
The Size Tag
It’s always one of the most important things to look out for when buying any pair of Jordans. The Nike size tag should be printed perfectly, with a slightly white printed border around the size tag itself. Jordan 6 Travis Scott fakes will usually have a border with chipped print so it is easy to tell.
The Branding
On the Travis Scott AJ6, the ‘Nike Air’ logo will appear on the insole of the shoe. This should be a slightly green colour and match the outsole of the shoe. Fakes will make this logo too dark or just simply white.
The Sole
Whilst glow in the dark soles are not unique to Travis Scott Jordans, or Air Jordan 6s, this is a big giveaway when looking to spot fakes.
The Colour
When you are looking at an authentic pair of AJ6 Travis Scott’s, we’d recommend getting a UV light to check the glow in the dark sole. We put the Travis Scott’s fakes under a UV light, and on the Real pair the glow in the dark sole initially lights up in blue, whereas on the fake pair this initially lights up green, as can be seen in the first 2 pictures. When we removed the UV light, both soles were glowing up in a green colour.
Another thing which you can notice is the infrared on the inner air bubble lights up in a neon pink colour when exposed to UV, and on the replica this is much darker.
The Box
This is a big giveaway and one that, no matter how hard they try, replicators can’t seem to get right. If you want to know how to tell fake Jordans this is an easy thing to look for.
The box construction should be very good quality, featuring Travis Scott’s favoured brown and black colourway. The colours of the box should be a big giveaway and there should also be the Cactus Jack smiley and Nike Air logo on the end.
The size labels on fakes are harder to tell nowadays, with replicators using QR codes that link to the Nike website.
Recap
- The Upper – colour, suede, stitching. Check that there is a light finish to the shoe, as well as a good quality suede throughout. Stitching is always important, with even gaps found throughout the Travis Scott Air Jordan 6.
- The Pocket – You should be able to see the Cactus Jack smiley face as soon as you open the pocket. The smiley face should also be the same infrared colour as the infrared found throughout the shoe’s accents. The stitching that we discussed also applies to pocket. The pocket should have khaki stitching on the inside against white lining.
- The Tongue – check the look, the translucent finish on the tongue, the Jordan logo font and the quality of the canvas at first glance. Make sure you look at the holes found on the tongue too, these should be perforated and frayed slightly. Remember the hidden Cactus Jack logos on the lace dubrae and behind the tongue, these should be clean to read and printed or stitched perfectly. The Jumpman logo should have visible fingers and laces, not too fat and not too thin. Laces are another giveaway, perfect width only
- The Heel – check the logos and the colour! Infrared, perfectly stitched and easy to read. A slight gap between the ‘C’ and ‘A’ on Cactus and the ‘A’ and C’ joined on ‘Jack’ with a slight gap at the bottom. The heel tab should be slightly translucent just the same as the tongue.
- The Insole – the size tag should be perfectly printed and the Nike Air logo on the insole should be slightly green.
- The Sole – get a UV light! Real soles should go slightly blue before eventually turning green, not go green straight away
- The Box – check the quality, overall construction and branding. If the colours are off or the box seems inferior in quality then check the other details to make sure it’s not fake.
