When it comes to street culture, few people are as important as Takashi Murakami. The Japanese contemporary artist, known for his signature flower design, has worked with the likes of Kanye West, Drake, Louis Vuitton and Pharrell; making a name as one of the most important people in both pop and art culture. We now have a closer look at the latest collaboration with the fellow Japanese brand PORTER.
After taking to Instagram to reveal the upcoming work, Murakami has given us a closer look at what we can expect from the collab. Using both photos and videos to delve deeper into the design process, the 57-year-old creative shows us a number of products that have been given the Murakami treatment.
The most shown items include a canvas military-style sneaker boot which comes in a rich khaki. Constructed using velcro straps, large dual branding the shoe is well-balanced through the use of a gum midsole which features the KaiKai Kiki sunflower motif. In true Murakami style, this sunflower pattern has made its way onto a slip-on sneaker; creating a colourful pair of kicks that will certainly attract the eye.
Other notable items include a pair of high top sneakers which feature the same multicoloured sunflower pattern with a translucent toe box and bright green laces. A low top slip-on version of the same khaki canvas pair has also made its way into the collection, with a black belt bag rounding off this playful partnership.
Whilst there is no further information regarding the upcoming Takashi Murakami x PORTER collaboration, given how finalised most of these products look, you should expect a release sooner rather than later.
