Hi, my name is Julian (@theytookj on Instagram). I’m 30 years old and I’m from Munich, Germany

How did your passion for sneakers start?

As a sneakerhead, I enjoy collecting sneakers because they offer a unique combination of fashion, art, and culture. So for me, sneakers are not just comfortable and functional footwear, but they also express a certain aesthetic and can communicate aspects of my identity and personality. The variety of colours, patterns, and silhouettes allows for endless possibilities of self-expression and customisation.

Additionally, sneaker collecting for me is a way to connect with like-minded individuals and participate in a community that shares a passion for sneakers. Furthermore, as a collector, I really appreciate the history and craftsmanship behind the designs. Many iconic sneaker models have a rich backstory and cultural significance, from Air Jordans to Yeezys to the Converse Chuck Taylor. For me, the process of researching and learning about the history of sneakers is a really rewarding aspect of collecting.

What was the first sneaker that caught your eye and why?

It all started with the first NMDs and Yeezys. They were just really fresh-looking sneakers and the hype around them back in the day was something I had never experienced before. They were also the most comfortable shoes I had ever worn. That’s where the starting point for collecting was for me!
